Astronomy education and outreach
As part of the collaboration between the International Astronomical Union and the Norwegian Academy of Science & Letters on the Kavli Prize in Astrophysics, the Norwegian Academy has agreed to support certain Commission 46 education and outreach activities. In connection with the IAU's General Assembly in Rio de Janeiro the Norwegian Academy has provided funds to the IAU for a planning luncheon devoted to astronomy education, to take place at 12:00 noon Tuesday, 11 August at the Convention Center. The luncheon will be devoted to a discussion of education strategies for the IAU for different regions of the world. Representatives of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and members of the IAU Commission 46 Program Groups will participate in the luncheon together with General Assembly attendees who have an interest in education and outreach.
Members and invited participants at the General Assembly who wish to contribute to astronomy activities in education and outreach are invited to the lunch. Interested persons who have not yet been involved with such activities and people from developing countries are particularly encouraged to attend.
